About the CouncilThe Scottish Data Centre Council (SDCC) is an evidence-led industry body for Scotland’s data centre sector.
The SDCC brings together industry insight, technical evidence and policy expertise to support that growth in the right way. It exists to support better understanding of the sector and to ensure policy, planning and public debate are informed by evidence.
Scotland has a strongopportunity in data centres.
It has renewable energy resources, a skilled workforce, established technology and research sectors, and a climate that can help reduce cooling demand. It also has a planning and regulatory framework that expects high standards from major infrastructure projects.

But the sector is not always well understood.
Public debate often focuses on individual projects without a clear explanation of what data centres do, how they are powered, what they need from the grid, how water is used, what jobs they create, or how local communities can benefit.
The Council exists to provide that evidence.
It gives the sector a voice in policy, planning and public debate, while supporting higher standards across the industry.

Our aims.
The Council aims to:

- 03Improve understanding of the role data centres play in Scotland’s economy and digital infrastructure.
- 04Promote high standards across energy use, sustainability, resilience, planning and community engagement.
- 05Support constructive engagement between industry, government, regulators, local authorities, communities and the energy sector.
- 06Highlight the economic, social and digital benefits that responsible data centre development can bring.
- 07Help ensure Scotland is well placed to attract investment while meeting its energy, climate and community priorities.
The Scottish Data Centre Council acts as a forum for industry evidence, policy engagement and public information.
It supports responsible development and works to improve the quality of debate around data centres in Scotland.
